Section 3 - Hazards Identification

EMERGENCY OVERVIEW

Appearance: APHA: 10 max liquid. Flash Point: 51 deg C.
Danger! Flammable liquid and vapor. May impair fertility. May cause harm to the unborn child. May cause eye, skin, and respiratory tract irritation. May form explosive peroxides. Hygroscopic (absorbs moisture from the air).
Target Organs: Central nervous system, reproductive system.

Potential Health Effects
Eye: May cause eye irritation.
Skin: May cause skin irritation. May be harmful if absorbed through the skin.
Ingestion: May cause irritation of the digestive tract. May be harmful if swallowed.
Inhalation: May cause respiratory tract irritation. May be harmful if inhaled. Subchronic toxicity was evaluated in rats exposed nose-only by inhalation to diglyme 5 days/week for 2 weeks. Testicular atrophy and exfoliated degenerative germ cells were observed among the rats exposed to 98 ppm.
Chronic: May cause fetal effects. May impair fertility.

Section 4 - First Aid Measures

Eyes: Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. If irritation develo ps, get medical aid.
Skin: Immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical aid if irritation develops or persists.
Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting. Get medical aid.
Inhalation: Remove from exposure and move to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical aid.
Notes to Physician: Treat symptomatically and supportively.

Section 5 - Fire Fighting Measures

General Information: As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. Vapors may form an explosive mixture with air. Vapors can travel to a source of ignition and flash back. Will burn if involved in a fire. Containers may explode in the heat of a fire. Flammable liquid and vapor. May form explosive peroxides.
Extinguishing Media: Use water spray, dry chemical, carbon dioxide, or chemical foam.
Flash Point: 51 deg C ( 123.80 deg F)
Autoignition Temperature: 170 deg C ( 338.00 deg F)
Explosion Limits, Lower:1.5 Vol %
Upper: 17.4 Vol %
NFPA Rating: (estimated) Health: 2; Flammability: 2; Instability: 3

Section 6 - Accidental Release Measures

General Information: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated in Section 8.
Spills/Leaks: Absorb spill with inert material (e.g. vermiculite, sand or earth), then place in suitable container. Wear a self contained breathing apparatus and appropriate personal protection. (See Exposure Controls, Personal Protection section). Remove all sources of ignition. Use a spark-proof tool. Provide ventilation. Do not let this chemical enter the environment.

Section 7 - Handling and Storage

Handling: Use spark-proof tools and explosion proof equipment. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Keep away from heat, sparks and flame. Do not ingest or inhale. Use only in a chemical fume hood. If peroxide formation is suspected, do not open or move container. Do not distill to dryness. Test for peroxide formation before distillation.
Storage: Keep away from sources of ignition. Store in a cool, dry place. Store in a tightly closed container. Flammables-area. Store under nitrogen. Containers should be dated when opened and tested periodically for the presence of peroxides. May form explosive peroxides on prolonged storage.

Section 8 - Exposure Controls, Personal Protection

Engineering Controls: Use explosion-proof ventilation equipment. Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped with an eyewash facility and a safety shower. Use only under a chemical fume hood.
