respiratory tract irritation. May cause digestive tract irritation
with nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. May cause liver damage. May
cause adverse reproductive effects. Warning!
Harmful if swallowed. Hygroscopic (absorbs moisture from the air).
Causes skin irritation.
Target Organs: Blood, liver, lungs, respiratory
system, eyes, skin.
Potential Health Effects
Eye:
May cause severe eye irritation.
Skin:
Causes skin irritation. Causes redness and pain.
Ingestion:
Harmful if swallowed. May cause gastrointestinal irritation with
nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. May cause headache, nausea, fatigue,
and dizziness.
Inorganic tin salts may cause systemic toxic effects on the central ne
rvous system, heart, and liver.
Inhalation:
Irritation may lead to chemical pneumonitis and pulmonary edema. May
cause severe irritation of the upper respiratory tract with pain,
burns, and inflammation. May cause effects similar to those described
for ingestion.
Chronic:
Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause dermatitis. Prolonged
or repeated exposure may cause adverse reproductive effects.
Section 4 - First Aid Measures
|
Eyes:
Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes,
occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid.
Skin:
Get medical aid. Immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at
least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes.
Wash clothing before reuse.
Ingestion:
If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water.
Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical
aid.
Inhalation:
Get medical aid immediately. Remove from exposure and move to fresh
air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If
breathing is difficult, give oxygen.
Notes to Physician:
Treat symptomatically and supportively. Persons with asthma, chronic
respiratory disease, skin disorders, eye problems or allergies may be
at increased risk from exposure to this substance.
Section 5 - Fire Fighting Measures
|
General Information:
As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in
pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full
protective gear. During a fire, irritating and highly toxic gases
may be generated by thermal decomposition or combustion.
Extinguishing Media:
Use extinguishing media most appropriate for the surrounding fire.
Use water spray, dry chemical, carbon dioxide, or appropriate foam.
Flash Point: Not applicable.
Autoignition Temperature: Not applicable.

(estimated) Health: 2; Flammability: 0; Instability: 0
Section 6 - Accidental Release Measures
|
General Information: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated
in Section 8.
Spills/Leaks:
Clean up spills immediately, observing precautions in the Protective
Equipment section. Sweep up, then place into a suitable container for
disposal. Avoid generating dusty conditions. Provide ventilation.
Section 7 - Handling and Storage
|
Handling:
Wash thoroughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and
wash before reuse. Use only in a well-ventilated area. Minimize dust
generation and accumulation. Avoid breathing dust, vapor, mist, or
gas. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Keep container
tightly closed. Avoid ingestion and inhalation.
Storage:
Store in a tightly closed container. Store in a cool, dry,
well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances. Store
protected from moisture.
Section 8 - Exposure Controls, Personal Protection
|
Engineering Controls:
Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped
with an eyewash facility and a safety shower. Use process enclosure,
local exhaust ventilation, or other engineering controls to control
airborne levels.

Ecotoxicity:
Water flea Daphnia: EC50 = 19.5; 48 Hr; Unspecified
Terrestrial fate: At a low pH, increased uptake of tin occurs as a
result of increase solubility. The translocation of tin by plants is
reduced by low solubility in soil. The insolubility of tin at a
neutral to alkaline pH range prevents plant uptake and subsequent
food chain contamination.

Section 13 - Disposal Considerations
|
Chemical waste generators must determine whether a discarded chemical is classified
as a hazardous waste.
US EPA guidelines for the classification determination are listed in 40 CFR Parts 261.3.
Additionally, waste generators must consult state and local hazardous waste regulations to
ensure complete and accurate classification.
