Section 3 - Hazards Identification
|
EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Appearance: yellowish-white solid.
Caution! May cause severe eye irritation and
possible injury. May be absorbed through intact skin. Causes skin
irritation. Causes digestive and respiratory tract irritation. May
cause fetal effects.
Target Organs: None.
Potential Health Effects
Eye:
May cause eye irritation and possible burns.
Skin:
May cause skin irritation. May be absorbed through the skin.
Ingestion:
Causes gastrointestinal irritation with nausea, vomiting and
diarrhea.
Inhalation:
May cause respiratory tract irritation.
Chronic:
May cause fetal effects.
Section 4 - First Aid Measures
|
Eyes:
Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes,
occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid imme
diately.
Skin:
Get medical aid immediately. Flush skin with plenty of water for at
least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes.
Wash clothing before reuse. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes.
Ingestion:
If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water.
Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical
aid. No specific treatment is necessary, since this material is
expected to be non-hazardous.
Inhalation:
Get medical aid immediately. Remove from exposure and move to fresh
air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If
breathing is difficult, give oxygen.
Notes to Physician:
Absorption of this product into the body may cause cyanosis (bluish
discoloration of skin due to deficient oxygenation of the blood).
Moderate degrees of cyanosis need to be treated only by supportive
measures: bed rest and oxygen inhalation. For methemoglobinemia,
administer oxygen alone or with Methylene Blue depending on the
methemoglobin concentration in the blood. Cleansing of the entire
contaminated area of the body is of utmost importance.
Section 5 - Fire Fighting Measures
|
General Information:
As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in
pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full
protective gear. Combustion generates toxic fumes. During a fire,
irritating and highly toxic gases may be generated by thermal
decomposition or combustion.
Extinguishing Media:
Use water spray, dry chemical, carbon dioxide, or chemical foam.
Flash Point: Not applicable.
Autoignition Temperature: Not applicable.
Explosion Limits, Lower:Not available.
Upper: Not available.
NFPA Rating:
(estimated) Health: ; Flammability: ; Instability:
Section 6 - Accidental Release Measures
|
General Information: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated
in Section 8.
Spills/Leaks:
Clean up spills immediately, observing precautions in the Protective
Equipment section. Sweep up, then place into a suitable container for
disposal. Avoid generating dusty conditions. Provide ventilation.
Section 7 - Handling and Storage
|
Handling:
Wash thoroughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and
wash before reuse. Use with adequate ventilation. Minimize dust
generation and accumulation. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and
clothing. Keep container tightly closed. Avoid ingestion and
inhalation. Wash clothing before reuse.
Storage:
Keep container closed when not in use. Store in a tightly closed
container. Keep from contact with oxidizing materials. Store in a
cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances.
Section 8 - Exposure Controls, Personal Protection
|
Engineering Controls:
Use adequate ventilation to keep airborne concentrations low.
