Environmental: TERRESTRIAL FATE: Benzamide biodegrades in soil; and almost complete degradation was obtained in clayey and organic soils in 3 and 13 days, respectively. Benzamide is only weakly adsorbed to soil and would be expected to leach. Should it leach into an anaerobic zone such as an aquifer, benzamide should biodegrade. AQUATIC FATE: If released in water, benzamide would neither volatilize or adsorb strongly to sediment and particulate matter in the water column. Benzamide is biodegradable, however there are no data on its biodegradation half-life in natural water.
Physical: ATMOSPHERIC FATE: Due to its very low vapor pressure, if benzamide is released to the atmosphere, it would be attached to particulate matter and be subject to gravitational settling.
